-Interior Design in Soma-

I’m in the midst of a full interior design of a commercial office space in the city. The usability research company is doing a full overhaul of the 1400sqft downstairs and adding a design component to the biz. So it’s been fun designing a design studio! Pictures coming when the construction ends. Otherwise you can see the before photos with a lot of people in them.

I recently had the privilege of being the first Artist in Residency at sfBrightworks in San Francisco. They are an incredible school with a distinctly unique approach to education. I built the artist studio with the Director, welded and woodworked and taught the kids about what I was doing and why.

The Rails of Summer

This past Summer I traveled across the country by train and bicycle teaching workshops in art, writing and design with my good friend Sharif. We started out with a focus on helping Native American Youth find a creative voice, but as more people got interested the project grew to include at risk youth all over the United States.

I recently had a commission for a wedding bouquet of metal. That wedding was featured on Greenweddingshoes. It then was written up by a Spanish reporter here, but that post has since been taken down for whatever reason. It was nice to be international for a moment. Take a look at more photos of the two different bouquets.

To the left is the modular version in which the position of the cubes and even how many there are can be modified to suit different home environments. Below is the welded version.

industrial stems; vases

For each of the holiday shows I was a part of, I needed to have some smaller pieces. Couldn’t really put a table on top of a table ya know? These vases came out of that idea. They are made with steel, walnut, and scientific glass. I’ve had some tell me their flowers lasted more than 3 weeks!

cyclopods; octopus and squid

The octopus was the 4th highest selling piece of art at SF bicycle coalition’s ’08 winterfest auction. The squid and octopus have sold at Deconstruction, East Bay Open Studios, and Expressions Gallery in Berkeley.

firegrate

This custom firegrate was built for a friend of mine living in an old victorian in san fran. The fireplace is an odd size and he wanted something that would fit and look cool. I’m really happy with the way this turned out and am excited to see it in action.

bedframe

My friend needed a bedframe built. When I saw the beautiful 3 panel door I knew it was perfect for a headboard and then looked around to find the matching set of doors for the platform. It was living in her beautiful victorian in sf, and has now moved over to the east bay.

wine rack

This is a wine rack that I built a while back. It is fully scalable floor to ceiling and I put it together with a bar or restaurant having two or three of these “towers” helping to create the aesthetic.
